Thunder, welcome back to a full REGULAR season of community ball!
What you will find below:
General notice:
CMBA, and by way of extension Thunder, adjusts and abides by any requests/requirements from our facility rentals, municipalities, and/or AHS on public requirements.
Registration - early season fees are here!
We are anticipating a regular full season of practices, games, and facility use... and with it we are offering our early registration through the end of May (or until we hit our player/division capacity). Please read through our site and then log into your RAMP registration to secure your spot. Once registration capacities are reached we will offer a waitlist which will be reviewed against overall player numbers and facility availability to determine if we are able to accept more players.
If you have, or are, applying for Financial Assistance you are best to get on this early as all fees are due prior to evaluations. Keep in mind, YOU are the one to make the FA applications so please ensure you complete these in full and follow up with the respective association on their processing if/as needed.
Regular season - CMBA '23 season fall start!!!
Kick off of the CMBA '23 season is anticipated to be a regular season as facility rentals are being released by the City and school boards for our use.
Coaches meeting - TBD, likely a weeknight following evaluations
Highlights/housekeeping notes to remember to make evaluations and our forwarding season successful for coaches, players, and parents/guardians.
A reminder that parents may stay (this might be inhibited by Genesis Centre use/regulations), but are not allowed in the gym during evaluations. This is partly for safety reasons due to overcrowding.
If a child has medical issues, such as diabetes, parents are to stay nearby.
**AGAIN, all evaluation gyms are CLOSED sessions. You are welcome to remain within the facility, though a reminder to please be respectful of the space (no siblings running through the buildings, no garbage left behind, be respectful of the space... we want to be invited back!)**
Evaluation Overview for Parents/Guardians & Players:
The overall purpose of evaluations is to place each player on a team where they have the best opportunity to have fun and develop as a basketball player. All registered players will be put on a team. The evaluation process will include a variety of skills/drills and team play. The evaluators will be a mix of coaches and qualified evaluators from the communities within NCBC Thunder Basketball. An evaluation panel will make all final decisions regarding team assignments.
CMBA coaching clinics - registration will be released once it is available from CMBA.
If you THINK you might coach, sign up! We need volunteer coaches, and these will not be determined until later. So worse case scenario in doing a clinic, you do not coach, but have gained a little more basketball knowledge!
All coaches come out with only the best of intentions and parallel to that thought, CMBA wants to make sure you have the foundational tools to build off of... plus keep in mind this sport evolves! With that thought in mind it is also a moment to reiterate that CMBA ball is based on the Canadian style of play.... what does that mean?!? Perfect, you register, take the FREE course and learn it, to implement it! Click here to register.
CMBA has been at the leading edge of offering the most up-to-date and well researched youth sports development models to their coaches. The concepts and ideas presented in the CMBA Coach Development clinics has resulted in exciting success - the feedback provided by coaches attest to this fact. Years of research & development in youth sports has resulted in proven teaching techniques, proven decision-making processes and proven Style of Play concepts that coaches are encouraged to utilize. CMBA has embraced these best-in-class concepts and the results speak for themselves.
Canada Basketball's Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model, Rick Torbett's Read & React Offense and Point Guard College's concepts to develop players are all utilized in CMBA's Fall CD Program.
Tykes - NO evaluations for you, schedule to come!
Tykes will likely kickoff the week of the 18th in September. Specific information will be finalized once registration comes to a close in August and we set our fall schedule based on number of players.
TBD - Tykes is typically run at Edgemont Community Association, or one consistant facility location to minimize the schedule/location changes for our youngest players and their families. However, location is TBD after we have all our facilities confirmed and registration is closed.
Uniform sizing chart - check your measurements
You are responsible for the uniform size, so with it we would suggest that you actually measure and do your best to have a little room to grow... but try to avoid swimming in it!
Players are NOT guarenteed the size they have registered with, though we do our best to filfull these requests. Again, please check that you are selecting the appropriate size for your player with consideration to the measurement chart below.
NO we do NOT mix and match sizes... sorry, it is a uniform set, so do your best to size yourself accordingly.
Thunder apparel - optional Ts, Hoodies, sweatpants, hats, touques
With your registration you have the option to order a Thunder T, hoodie, sweatpants, and/or touque for your player, grandma, whoever you want to outfit to help show you support!
Thunder - team.community.commitment
Lets be ready for the season, excited for the opportunity to play ball, and ensure we are respectful to all involved. From your Thunder board, to your coaches, to CMBA, to our facilities, to your family, to our competitors.... we show up, leave it all on the floor, and ALWAYS do it with respect!
Being part of Thunder is being part of our team, you are our community and we are committed to offering each other the best basketball experience possible. It is a sport, we are competitive, and in it we always show good sportsmanship!
To you all, .... have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you back in the gym for September. Arrive hungry so we can get after it... heart & hustle!
